Insights – Product selection and analysis - Home Care Health Provider

A Victorian Home Care Provider was experiencing a large number of back injuries and claims. They were unsure of the cause.  Was it manual tasks with client’s patients requiring them to buy expensive equipment? Was it the new fleet of vehicles they’d just purchased?

The JAS Premium system was used to analyse the work tasks and vehicle ingress and egress as well as frequent and sustained bending in awkward postures with the new vehicle fleet that demonstrated Very High Risk for the back and shoulders.

A decision was made to assess a range of vehicles to determine whether the position of the seats and size of doors was creating the higher risks. It was found that there was no need to invest in client services machines, because the cause was the low seats, wide gap from door to seat, unusually long door and the reach required to open and close doors.

This situation resulted in a saving from not buying unnecessary equipment,  rather a decision to change the fleet of vehicles was made by management and there was a subsequent reduction in back, neck and shoulder issues for workers.
